Rio

Thursday 15th December 2016 – We got up, did our laundry and went to the bank to pay for our apartment. The weather forecast was poor until Sunday so we took the chance to look around Copacabana and do a bit of shopping. Alysa bought some flip flops and we found a pretty rucksack for Erin. In the afternoon we bought a big tub of chocolate ice cream and watched tv in bed – everything was in Portuguese but we didn’t care.

Friday 16th December 2016 – We met Heloisa, a lovely old Carioca at the apartment. She showed us round her apartment and then left us to it. Five days with a place to ourselves – fantastic. We stocked up with provisions and then went for a walk along Copacabana Beach.

Saturday 17th December 2016 – Spent the day blogging. Realised you could change the language on the tv from Portuguese to English – result!

Sunday 18th December 2016 – Woke up and the sun was shining. We walked to a craft market in Ipanema where Alysa found a couple of nice bags for Dawnio and Gaynio. After lunch we went to sunbathe on Copacabana Beach, transformed now the sun was out. We laid in the sun as hawkers paced the beach selling just about anything; one chap even tried to interest us in a Persian rug. Groups of tanned youngsters played keepyuppy football near the shore and bronzed babes dipped in the bracing surf. Alysa cooked an enormous fish for dinner and I finished blogging.
