Relaxing in Siem Reap

Friday 15th July 2016 – Ready for a bit of luxury we moved from the Backpacker Hostel to My Place Hotel which had a pool, good food and a livelier vibe. We had everything we needed at the hotel and spent most of the day relaxing in our air-conditioned room and surfing the internet. In the cool of the evening we played pool, drank at the bar and chatted late into the night with the Kiwi owner.

Saturday 16th July 2016 – Spent some time by the pool and later went for a walk around Siem Reap. Alysa had agreed that tonight I could have some boy time out on the town so she thought it was hilarious when ‘Party Ironmonger’ returned barely an hour later.

Sunday 17th July 2016 – Today, other than sunbathing by the pool we did some shopping: 2 hammocks, 1 elephant t-shirt, 4 sparkly purses, 3 pairs of brightly coloured trousers, 1 peacock hair brooch, 4 silk scarves and some pop-up greeting cards. That night, as we were about to cross the busy road from the market to Pub Street we saw a lizard scamper into the middle of the road, stopping under the chassis of a tuk-tuk. I ran into the road and chased the lizard around the tuk-tuk bringing the traffic to a standstill. Eventually I managed to grab the poor thing, yelping as he sank his teeth into my finger and took him to the side of the road, looking for somewhere he would be safe. The tuk-tuk drivers who had been watching the crazy Westerner with amusement from the roadside understood and pointed to a nearby tree. I left the lizard on the tree trunk and as my finger dripped blood on the way home I knew my reptilian karma was restored.

Monday 18th July 2016 – Sunbathed by the pool. Alysa took me to meet the dog she had been feeding sausages for the last few days.
