Vilanculos Continued
Saturday 27th February 2016 – Our attempt to book flights from Maputo to Tete online was flagged as possible fraud and blocked. A Skype call to the Halifax (phone number conveniently located on the back of the credit card) soon resolved this and we were confirmed for a flight on Thursday. Otherwise the day was spent lounging at the hostel playing Spelltower and watching videos on our phones.
Sunday 28th February 2016 – Another quiet day. For lunch we walked over to another hostel called the Allemagna Complex where we had some food and played pool. Looking forward to moving on now but not much to do but wait for our flight on Thursday.
Monday 29th February 2016 – Purchased our bus tickets to Maputo for tomorrow. We depart at the uncivilised hour of 3am. Later, in Vilanculos we bumped into Beth, a peace corps volunteer we had shared a dorm with in Tofo. A few days earlier than us she had experienced the same burning and swelling around the cheeks and eyes, severe enough that she had travelled to Maputo to see a doctor about it. We asked her if she had eaten fish that evening but she told us she had only eaten a spinach and feta pizza. We now reckon we were nobbled by one of the housekeepers who had procured some sort of noxious powder from the local witch doctor and sprinkled it on our pillows while cleaning the dorm (we’re only half-joking!).
